The Infection Control Practitioner will be responsible for the ongoing planning, implementation, and coordination of the Infection Control program for St Petersburg General Hospital. This individual, by virtue of education and experience, is sanctioned by the governing body to be recognized as the authority in Infection Control policy, procedure, and practice for the organization. The Infection Control Coordinator shares this authority with the Chairperson of the Infection Control Committee. The IC Coordinator is accountable for the program to ensure the continued surveillance, prevention and control of infection. Duties and Responsibilities include:
* Designs and implements an infection control process that is appropriate to the organization's demographics. Process includes strategies to decrease the risk of endemic and epidemic nosocomial infection in patients and health care workers. * Annual appraisal and revision of the Infection Control Plan in compliance with the requirements of the Standards for Surveillance, Prevention, and Control of Infection by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals and healthcare organizations. * Selects and utilizes a surveillance approach in accordance with epidemiological principles and infectious disease. Such an approach considers hospital-specific demographics, such as, scope of service; high volume; frequent infectious complications; high potential for adverse patient outcome; or substantial potential for prevention. * Designs and implements a data-collection methodology that is relevant, valid, and capable of providing statistically-based analysis of infection control-related data, including incidence and prevalence rates. * Provides for the planning and implementation of education regarding the surveillance, prevention, and control of infection for medical center personnel. * Coordinates the operations and functions of the Infection Control Committee and acts as a co-chair of the committee.
Qualifications
Job Qualifications include:
* Current Florida RN licensure. * CIC preferred and required within 6 months of hire. * Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. * Strong background in clinical nursing. * Knowledge of laws, regulations and standards related to hospital infection control. * 2-4 years acute care experience or previous Infection Control Nurse preferred. * Customer service abilities including effective listening skills. * Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
